A birthday reflection & the era I’m stepping into
Hey quilting friend,
Yesterday was my birthday — and instead of candles and big plans, I found myself reflecting.
Not on age.
Not on timelines.
But on what actually matters.
I’ve learned to think of my life in eras.
There was my survival era — the season after losing Nathan (my husband), where simply getting through the day was enough.
Then came my soft-girl era — slowing down, being gentler with myself, letting rest be productive.
And now… I’m stepping into something new.
✨ My Becoming Era. ✨
For my birthday, I wrote a list of 40 things I want to do as I enter this next chapter — not a checklist, but a reminder. A permission slip. A way of saying: I’m allowed to want more joy, more play, more meaning.
When I really sat with that list, I realized something important.
Most of us only have about five things that truly matter most.
And if you’re anything like me…
🧵 quilting is one of them.
Not just the fabric or the finished quilts —
but the quiet moments.
The stories sewn in.
The way quilting meets us where we are.
Quilting has held me through grief, healing, softness, and now becoming.
It’s where I’ve learned that small stitches still count — and unfinished projects don’t mean failure.
So if you’re reflecting too…
If you’re entering a new season — or still surviving one…
If quilting is one of the things that grounds you…
I want you to know this:
You’re not behind.
You’re not doing it wrong.
And you don’t have to rush your becoming.
Here’s to honoring what matters most — and stitching our way forward, gently. 💛
With love + stitches,
Emily 🧵✨
